Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Race Report

El Cajon, CA, September 10, 2018 – Red Bull’s Mia Chapman finished third in the first of two rounds of Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Mod Kart competition at Utah Motorsports Campus. It marked the 15-year-old Red Bull Athlete’s first podium of the season in the national series.

The event was held at the .8-mile, five turn off-road course in Tooele, UT. The track is known to be extremely technical with a long whoops section.

Chapman qualified eighth for Friday’s race, but was quickly climbing through the field, taking second on lap three and then finishing third. Having proven to herself that she can finish on the podium, Chapman is now eying a victory.

“The car was just hooked up and we’re looking forward to doing it again, and maybe getting a win,” said Chapman. “It’s nice to know I can run up there.”

In Saturday’s race, Chapman again qualified eighth, but got caught up in a first-lap pileup in the first turn. Not wanting to give up, she limped her car into the hot pits and her team set to work, fixing a broken tie rod and getting her back into the race. She finished 11th.

“Today didn’t really go as planned,” explained Chapman. “I came out of the pits two laps down to finish the race. A big thank you to everyone on my team for getting the car fixed.”

Chapman is one of Red Bull Racing’s youngest athletes. Along with Red Bull, she has also amassed several other sponsors, including Xtreme Machine Fabrication, which built the car, and the VanBeekum family’s R&R Steel. To say this young racer is going places is an understatement.

“Xtreme Machine & Fabrication built my car from scratch, and the owner Jimmy Owen is a huge help,” said Chapman. “He spots for me and helps out a bunch in the pits. R&R Steel has been a longtime sponsor. They are really good people and they help us out a lot. I’m definitely one of the youngest Red Bull athletes out here. That’s pretty cool, too.”

With her first podium recorded, Chapman will be looking for her first victory as LOORRS heads to Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, CA September 21-22.
